Angry Tofu Strips

Inspired by White on Rice Couple's recent post/video on Mojo Tofu and an excess of Angry Chicken marinade, I decided to make a nice vegetarian friendly option. I love, love, love spicy food and so does B. Sometimes I have to slap his hand away from the sriracha bottle and scold him in my angry, old Chinese lady voice, "Stop it. You gonna drown out the delicate flavors!" The rest of the time I'm fighting him for the bottle. :)

After pressing out the excess liquid from the firm tofu, I marinaded it in my spicy, "angry" yogurt mix with a few extra serrano chiles. After a few hours I breaded my tofu strips with some panko for extra crunch and fried them up in the some canola oil. I did this on the same night I made the shiitake tempura. Can you say food frying frenzy???

Crispy, check! Spicy, check! Delicious, check check check! Since fried foods go hand in hand with nice cold beer,  we enjoyed this meal with Laguanita's Hairy Eyeball Ale.

Sorry this looks like a FAIL
OK I’ve not done the recipe, but I’ve cooked with Tofu before. So it’s an opinion based on past experience.
I’ve tried with Tofu. I really have tried. I’ve tried to make it interesting. I’ve soaked the stuff overnight with all sorts of stuff. Yes I know I should’ve Marinaded it, rather than soaking it…
…but soaking is the only way I can describe what I did with the stuff.

[this is good] Mm..this looks fiery and absolutely delicious! Your pictures have this mellow, diffuse light quality that I have trouble getting right..these are perfect.

Yesterday, we marinated paneer (Indian cottage cheese, like tofu but yummier) and capsicum in a spicy hot yogurt chutney marinade and broiled it to make paneer tikka masala. I have a feeling you would have liked it. :)

    [esto es genial]

Looks mean.  Try soaking it in teriyaki sauce for about 5 to 10 mins. then use either an egg wah with flour and panko ( the japanese bread crumbs). fry and serve.  Very good.. have you tried stuffing tofu?
Would make a delicious meal.. Speaking of stuffing, hasve you tried stuff egg plant ( the asain variety – long type)? Got a mean recipe for it…

[this is good] Oh my goodness, this sounds so delish! I wonder if this would also work with Haloumi cheese. Anyone tried it? :)

Ooo I wanna make that.  I love my beer so that would be great.  What’s your “angry” yogurt marinade?

    [c’est top]

This looks delicious and I love spicy food too.  My boyfriend and I fight over the sriracha bottle all time, though he usually wins over me.  And I’m the Asian one too, can you believe it?! 😉

Pleas ignore drunken angry poste pub rant. Though I do stand by my assertion that tofu is rubbish. It could be a rubber (that’s an eraser for our colonial cousins), or a chunk of polystyrene for all the joy I’ve had with it.

[this is good] Oh, angry tofu, that’s just what I need right now!  It looks like these angry mean-looking tofu strips can make my anger go away.  Congrats on such a fabulous culinary job!

Da tin man! That sounds delicious w/the teriyaki sauce… none for you though. Too much sodium (wagging my finger at you). I’m trying to come up with some low/no sodium recipes for you so stay tuned. So hard, especially since I love salt.

Hi moogooguypan! I used Iron Chef Morimoto’s recipe for Angry Chicken. I provided a link to it just click on “Angry Chicken” in the first line of the post and it should take you there. Enjoy.

Oh, that would be so much fun.

Ask them for frozen paneer (puh-neer)..try the Swad or Nanak brand. Just thaw it and use like you would tofu. I know you’ll find lots of delicious things to do with it.
