Rum Raisin Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven are simply irresistible. Add some raisins spiked with dark rum and a rum glaze for an alcoholic twist. From good to great, right? Well in my dessert-minded imagination, I was smiling as my teeth were sinking into one of these yeasty rolls. A smile-bite. I had such high hopes for this recipe, but my tumultuous relationship with yeast quickly squelched those dreams. When the dough did not double in size after the first rise, I knew something had gone awry. It grew – just not enough. Just like a proud parent turns a blind eye to their child's faults, I just crossed my fingers in a state of denial and proceeded rolling and cutting and baking away. "They'll be fine after I bake them," I thought as I consoled myself. My biggest fear was realized once they came out of the oven. They were far from the Cinnabon wannabes that I had imagined… more dense like store bought cinnamon rolls. Arg… that darn yeast! I'll get you next time!

[this is good] Unfortunately, I just inhaled a bag of large Doritos. I wish I used the calories on this cinnamon roll instead!

[this is good] I’m not a big fan of cinnamon rolls, but these look scrumptious.

[this is good] Oh, forgive the yeast.  This looks perfectly irresistible!  The cinnomon rolls look really really really really good!  Wow!  Wow!  Wow!  Sorry, I had to say it three times.

I have so little experience with yeast so it always worries me, too. These still look great, though, and I bet they tasted great too. Cinnamon rolls have been on my to-try list for ages but I am worried that I will either screw them up or eat them all (or both).

Hey where’s the recipe?  I luv “sin-a-man” rolls.  I usually just pick them up form the local Cinnabon.  Love to have them with coffee or just about anytime.  I’m sure the rum raisins make them all the more better.

    I used this recipe:

    http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/CINNAMON-ROLLS-WITH-CREAM-CHEESE-GLAZE-241631

    As for the raisins..
that would be about 1/2 cup of raisins with 1 tsp cinnamon, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1/4 cup of dark rum and 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a boil and turn it off to steep until the raisins plump up. Drain well.

[c’est top] Rum and raisin are such a perfect combo in a cinnamon roll! I’m always stuck with using my same cinnamon apple combo, but now this new rum inspiration has got me really excited!
