Watermelon is one of the most quintessentially summer foods, so I turned it into a drink–a boozy one at that. I added some smokey mezcal and spicy jalapenos for a perfect counterbalance to the sweetness of the melon. Hope you’ll try it for your next big bash!
Mezcal Spiked Watermelon Agua Fresca
6 cups watermelon, cubed
1 cup simple syrup
1/2 cup lime juice
2 cups Mezcal
jalapeno, sliced (optional)
1. For the agua fresca, puree watermelon, simple syrup and lime juice in a blender. Strain into a large pitcher and chill.
2. Mix mezcal, mint spigs, cucumber and jalapeno into pitcher. To serve, pour agua fresca over ice. Garnish with a watermelon wedge and cucumber slices.
